Interview d'IxionCat (Australia)

Voici l'interview d'IxionCat qui vient d'Australie ! Excusez le peu de variété de cosplays dans les photos, mais elle est nouvelle dans le milieu donc je n'avais pas trop le choix.

1. For how long have you been in cosplay ?

I have been cosplaying since 2011. I first bought my cosplays.  It was just easier at the time, since I'm a perfectionist and it's an expensive hobby. The first ones I made was in 2014.

2. Cosplay is a time consuming hobby. how long does it take to craft your costumes ?

I'm actually really bad with time management haha. My costumes are never finished before the con, and I spend way to much time distracted during the process. An armor costume usually takes me around 2 months of slow work.

3. Any other hobby or passion besides cosplaying ?

Not really.  I watch anime,  I read books and Manga, I casually play video games now, and enjoy painting miniatures. Cosplaying is really the main focus hobby.  It brings so much into your life.

4. What materials are you using for cosplay crafting, worbla ? Foam ? Can you talk about that a little bit ? I've seen we have transparent worbla now...

I am a huge worbla fan, it's definitely my favorite material. It's a little unfortunate because a lot of anime characters I want to do are sewing based and I seem to really really struggle with that lol. But as for worbla, I use the sandwich technique and prime with wood glue and plasti-dip. The only advice I can give to anyone using it for the first time is to take their time and play around with it when you can  it is really worth the money once you get the hang of it. I haven't had a chance to use the clear worbla yet, but am so excited too! I'm hoping I can put off learning to resin cast a little longer with it lol.

5. Do you have any FAVORITE cosplayer ?

Kamui cosplay.  Hands down. She is amazing and I love how she represents herself and her armor work. I think she's absolutely incredible.

6. Did you hurt yourself while making a cosplay or in a convention ?

hahah yea. Almost every cosplay. I've burnt my legs and hands with a heat gun, and glued hot glue too myself too many times to count. Sylvanas was my first armor cosplay and was very uncomfortable to wear.  I got blisters all over my shoulders and body from the armor rubbing against me. I got really awful blisters from my boots in chaika that kept me off my feet for a few days after the convention was done. Jen has been my most comfortable and kept together cosplay so far.

7. Do you sell your old cosplays, or just keep it in a huge closet ?

I don't have enough for that yet! I don't think I will sell many though.  They mean a lot too me, and at the price I'd like to sell them for its probably too high hehe. I suppose I'll deal with it as it comes.

8. Who teached you to craft your cosplays ? Your family ? By reading books or watching youtube tutorials ?

I'd like to say visual tutorials. Sometimes youtube sometimes step by step image instructions. But in all honesty I kind of just end up going for it in the end. Trusting that whatever I do is too the best of my ability.  I do keep a lot of tutorials saved though for when they're needed.

9. Which conventions are you going to this year ?

So far I'm certain I'm going too: Supanova Sydney, Oz comiccon Brisbane, Supanova Brisbane
And hopefully Smash Sydney maybe haha.

10. What is your limit budget for a cosplay ?

Cosplay budget??? There is such a thing?? Haha. In all honesty I've just bought a planner to manage this sort of thing. If I want to take it more seriously and eventually be able to do commissions maybe, I need to know what certain things cost. I've spent a lot of money on a costume though. Since it is really my only hobby, as I'm not a very social person, the money wouldn't really go anywhere else useful.

11. Any future super secret cosplay project in mind ?

I have a lot of things I'd like to do! What I would actually be able to do or have time to do I have no idea. But I don't really do secret cosplays haha. I like to share too much progress with people for advice and opinions.

12. What are you doing in "real" life for a living ?

Unfortunately my real job is just.. whatever I can get at the moment. I'm about to try managing a cafe as far as I know. And possibly returning to study mid this year. I got sick during high school so I left in my final year 3 months in. I have confidence I'll work things out though.

13. You best souvenir from a convention ? And your worst ?

I took a Polaroid camera to a convention last year and got all my friends and favorite cosplayers to sign it! That was really fun. They're great photos too.  I should have continued to do it but it was a bit of a screw around with cosplayers that had places to be. I felt I was taking up too much of their time haha ??

14. Any advice for cosplay wannabees or beginners ?

I am a beginner, and there is no limit to what you can do because you're new  it's all about time, money and effort. If you're willing to put in the hours and even have that help from a friend or family member, you can make anything.  Always cosplay what you want too cosplay as well.  Don't cosplay for any other reason.

15. Do you have limits ? Some cosplays you will never make (too sexy, too hard, too heavy...) ?

I suppose I have limits on what I'll wear. I always think about comfort at a convention now, and if it's going to interfere with me enjoying the con. I also think there might be a few that are too flashy for me personally.  I actually have a cosplay shoot booked with someone,  but it's a personal one since the outfit is too revealing. But as a cosplayer I have to do it for myself, because I think it would be fun to do that character. Just not overly comfortable with my body being so open on the Internet ^.^ so yeah.  That again comes back to also cosplaying for yourself. If you're okay with it, then that's you and do what makes it fun and a great hobby for you.
