December 9 2016
Here is the interview of the amazing Faythe from Germany !
1. For how long have you been in cosplay ?
I started with Cosplay at the end of December 2012. My first Convention was already in 2009 with my cousin who started cosplaying back then but the hype kinda got me 3 years later.
2. Cosplay is a time consuming hobby. how long does it take to craft your costumes ?
Hardly depends on the cosplay to be honest. While I do most of my cosplays only a few weeks before a con I work almost non-stop on them then. My two most time consuming cosplays were the Restoration Angel from Magic the Gathering and Ashura-ou from RG Veda/Tsubasa back in 2013. They took me a few months. The others were mostly build in around 2-3 weeks.
3. Any other hobby or passion besides cosplaying ?
I love playing video games as well as writing stories once in a while.
4. What materials are you using for cosplay crafting, worbla ? Foam ? Can you talk about that a little bit ?
Since I am building many wings lately my most used material are feathers and wire. But I'm also using worbla once in a while and got my hands on some pro foam now for trying it out a bit.
In the last few years there have been so many new cosplay materials coming out and I hope I will get the time and money to try out the transparent Worbla as well one day. As well as I wanna use the Black one as well but I still got one entire XL sheet of the classic one that has to be used before.
5. Do you have any FAVORITE cosplayer ?
That's a pretty hard question. I got a few favorite Cosplayer. One of them being TinYasuo Cosplay as well as Murmeltierchen Cosplay. While there are many great armor building people out there I admire people who do a lot of sewing and stitching the most and especially TinYasuo is a Master of details !
6. Did you hurt yourself while making a cosplay or in a convention ?
I kinda hurt myself almost every cosplay I make. I am a super clumsy person and I always burn myself while using the heat gun or the hot glue.
7. Do you sell your old cosplays, or just keep it in a huge closet ?
Both. I got a really big closet that is almost only filled with all my cosplays but I also sold a few ones so far or giving them to friends for wearing at a Convention. Especially the ones I don't wear myself very often anymore.
8. Who teached you to craft your cosplays ? Your family ? By reading books or watching youtube tutorials ?
I mostly learned everything just be trying out. I am one of those persons who just always tries everything herself. But I learned the super basic stuff about how to use a sewing machine by my friend Zwillingsnadel Cosplay who does extremely cool cosplays herself as well !
9. Which conventions are you going to this year ?
This year I will only attend the Frankfurt Bookfair and the Epiccon since the year is almost over. For next year I am thinking about attending more conventions outside Germany as well.
10. What is your limit budget for a cosplay ?
I don't really have a limited budget for one cosplay. I usually try to work on one cosplay at a time. And I try to not start with a new one until the other one is finished. Since I already got some cosplays I really like to wear, I'm giving my new projects the time and money they need and if I don't make it in time for a convention, I just wear an old one again.
11. Any future super secret cosplay project in mind ?
I don't really keep my cosplay plans a secret. Next one on my list will be reworking my Morgana Cosplay from 2014. Already got the base and the new wings are finished. For next year I am not totally sure what I will cosplay yet but so far I got Eredin from the Witcher 3, a new version of Ho-Oh from Pokemon (as a comparison to how much I improved to my first one in 2013) and the Deathpact Angel from Magic the Gathering on my wishlist.
12. What are you doing in "real" life for a living ?
I am working at a logistic company.
13. Your best experience from a convention ? And your worst ?
My best experience ? I am not really sure about this one, I got a lot of great memories from conventions.. especially when I was wearing my Morgana at gamescom 2014. I still now how unsecure I was about wearing a belly free cosplay especially with all those people around. But everyone was so nice and I got so many compliments. It really helped me feeling better about Cosplaying difficult Characters ! And my worst one.. that is pretty easy I went to a convention with some people I didn't really know that well once... cause they were living close and I was asked to join them on the train. And they just forgot me at the convention. All of them turned their phones off and left me alone at the Convention ! Luckily a friend of mine took me home with her, gave me clothes and let me stay at her place.
14. Any advice for cosplay wannabees or beginners ?
Just give your best ! Never feel too unsecure about making a cosplay ! Just give it a try ! Like a friend of mine once said : ever tried, ever failed ? Try again, fail better. One of my first cosplays was one of my biggest projects so far and everything I know about sewing and stitching I learned from making this one project ! Always dream big !
15. Do you have limits ? Some cosplays you will never make ?
There are a few cosplays I feel too fat or too insecure to do yet but I don't think you can call that a limit. Cause maybe one day, I will do them anyway ! Just not yet because I know I will not be as satisfied about the outcome as I want to be ! And I still gotta learn much more ! But that's what cosplay is about for me, always giving your best, always learning new stuff and having so many people around who inspire me and maybe a few that I inspire as well.
